Today in Science

7t grade-  students reviewed their previous assessment.  Students who scored lower than 70% can correct their test for a passing grade.  Corrections need to be stapled to the original test and all tests must be signed by a parent or guardian to receive credit.

8th grade-  Students took notes on Matter and the phases of matter.  

Mini-project assigned today.  Students brainstormed ideas at the end of class for their phase changing superhero.  All students received a project outline and rubric.  We will work on our superhero stories/story boards tomorrow during class.  All projects are due on Wednesday.

Today in Science

All students were assessed on their knowledge of the metric system.

7th grade students received their first independent project-Condo Diorama.  Project guideline/rubric was handed out today.  Projects are due 9/14/09.

Today in Science

7 & 8th grade students reviewed last night's their practice packets on the metric system.  Students were also given a study packet in prep for tomorrow's quiz.  

All students should study metric prefixes and practice converting metric units.

Today in Science

7th grade-Students reviewed metric basics taking notes and measuring 20 items in class.  HW- conversion of items measured in class.

8th grade-reviewed Metric System basics.  Students worked on world traveler metric assignment. We will continue to work on it tomorrow during class.

7th grade & 8th grade students were assessed on their understanding of the Scientific Process.  
Tomorrow we will do a short review of the metric system before we move into content.

Today in Science

7th grade-  Students worked on a penny lab. Students are to complete the lab report packet for Monday.  A few student reminders:  
-The question and hypothesis should be aligned to the experiment (you did in class). 
- Be sure to use IF/Then statements when writing your hypothesis.
-Remember that the Part A is the control portion of the experiment.

8th grade-  Students worked on identifying variables today.

7th grade-  Students worked on analyzing scientific method stories and identifying variables.
No HW

8th grade- Students played thumb wars to test out their hypotheses to determine if thumb lengths or thumb circumference impact a player's ability to win.

HW-students need to complete their worksheet and graph outlining the thumb war results.

WELCOME BACK!

We are starting the school year off strong.  Thanks to those parents who've already reached out for info that will support their children achieve in science.  Students have all received a syllabus (outlining the class requirements and expectations) and a science spiral notebook (to keep all their notes, classwork, and labs).

HW- 7th grade received a Scientific Method Study Guide.  All students need to complete if for HW.  We did most of it in class.
